Torah UMesorah Shabbos/Shabbat Chinuch

This Shabbat, coinciding with our Shabbos/Shabbat Chinuch, is a community-wide Shabbos/Shabbat Chinuch from Torah Umesorah. Young Israel is fortunate to host Rabbi Dovid Nojowitz, National Director, for a Dvar Torah Shabbos/Shabbat morning, and Rabbi Shmuel Klein for the pre-mincha shiur and Seudah Shlishis/Shlishit. There is also a Friday night men's Oneg Shabbos/Shabbat, 8:00 pm at Rabbi Mordecai and Zipporah Yaroslawitz's house and a women's shiur by Rabbi Shmuel Dishon, 2:15 pm at Rabbi Yossi and Raizy Golembeck's house. There will be time to get to the pre-mincha shiur at Young Israel.

Shabbos/Shabbat Chinuch

Attention Kindergarten and 1st Grade Parents and Grandparents - Shabbos/Shabbat Chinuch this year will be held on December 11th. Each child will be presented with a special gift from the Shul followed by a special "kid-friendly" kiddush. We ask that each family send in a photo of your child/grandchild to Sara Greene. The photos will be used to decorate the social hall. Sponsorships for the kiddush are available and welcomed. We have lists from EHA, Torah Prep and Solomon Schechter. Please let the office know if you have a child or grandchild in another school so they can be included.

Notes on Davening

  • We use the RCA Artscroll Ashekenazi siddur. Our baalei tefilla use either the Sephardic or Ashkenazi havarah, depending on their personal preferences.
  • Our minhagim generally follow the Luach Ezras Torah.
  • For Shabbos/Shabbat candlelighting times and exact times for mincha, please see the bulletin.
  • On days school is not in session (summer and Chol Hamoed) there may be an additional Shacharis/Shacharit Shacharit minyan at 8 am; check the announcements.
  • Legal Holidays are New Year's Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and December 25th.
  • On weekdays when the Torah is read, Shacharis/Shacharit follows the Monday-Thursday schedule.
  • The actual algorithm for weekday mincha is 20 minutes before the earliest sh'kia for that week, rounded up to the next multiple of 5 minutes. The actual algorithm for mincha on erev Shabbos/Shabbat is candlelighting time, rounded down to the previous multiple of 5 minutes.
