SUMMER CHESS CLASS: An experienced chess player and teacher, Aleksey Kazakevich (USCF rating: 1737), is organizing a chess program this summer for grades K-5. Aleksey has taught chess at Epstein Hebrew Academy, Solomon Schechter, Chesterfield Day School, Immacolata School, Academy of Sacred Heart, and Forsyth School. He has also given hundreds of private lessons. In the past two years, his students have finished numerous times in the top five in tournaments in the prestigious Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, with a number of first-place finishes.

During the eight classes of the program, the students will receive instruction in all aspects of the game: openings, middlegame, and endgame, tactics, and strategy. During the course of the program, the students will be able to test their newly acquired skills against each other. Finally, during the last four classes, the students will participate in the tournament (where they will compete against players of similar level), with the award ceremony taking place during the last class.
