SHUL ANNOUNCEMENTS

SCHOLAR-IN-RESIDENCE: Rabbi Dr. Reuven P. Bulka has been the spiritual leader of Congregation Machzikei Hadas in Ottawa since 1967. In addition to being an accomplished author of more than 30 books and countless articles in the fields of religion, health, and psychology, he is also host of a radio program and a regular contributor to the Ottawa Citizen. Rabbi Bulka is the chair of the Trillium Gift of Life Network (responsible for organ and tissue donation in Ontario), and chairs the Hospice Ottawa West campaign. He received his Semikhaha (Rabbinic ordination) from the Rabbi Jacob Joseph Rabbinical Seminary, New York, in 1965 and his Ph.D. (concentrating on the Logotherapy of Viktor Frank) from the University of Ottawa in 1971.

CHESS SUMMER PROGRAM: There is still time to register for the second session being taught by Aleksey Kazakevich in the social hall Tuesdays and Thursdays. Grades K-5 – 4:30-5:30pm and grades 6-10 – 5:45-6:45pm, July 21 – August 18 (no class on August 9th). Cost: $35. For more info or to register, contact Aleksey at akazakev@slu.edu.

GUEST SPEAKER FOR PRE-MINCHA SHIUR: August 6th: Rabbi Sheftel Neuberger, President of Ner Israel Rabbinical College. His topic will be: "Bookends of the Three Weeks: Events in the Desert That Shape our History and Destiny".


STONE DEDICATION: For Karen Zeffren's father, Paul Friedman (z"l), will take place this Sunday, July 31, at 10:00 a.m. at the Beis HaMedrash Hagadol Cemetery at Price and Ladue.

COMMUNITY NEWS

SAFETY PROGRAM: The Epstein Hebrew Academy and Torah Prep are running a joint child safety education program for children, parents, and teachers in response to the tragic events this past month in Brooklyn. We are looking for sponsors to help underwrite this important program. The program is designed to educate the community and our children about the dangers of strangers both in person and online. ANNUAL COMMUNITY-WIDE EVENT: Sunday, July 31, 7:00 pm, at Young Israel. The speaker will be Rabbi Dr Reuven Bulka. His topic will be, "Are We As Happy As We Should Be?" The event is sponsored by the Sarah Adelman Memorial Fund. Minimum donation: $18/family.

YARCHEI KALLAH: The St Louis Kollel's Yarchei Kallah, a serious summer learning program, begins August 1st. The weekday morning women's learning will be in the Young Israel Beit Medrash, Monday, August 1st thru Thursday, August 4th 10:00 am to 11:30 am, learning: “G-d and His Relationship with the Jewish People”. An in-depth look at the final four of Rambam’s Thirteen Principles: Divine Providence, Reward and Punishment, The Arrival of Mashiach and Resurrection of the Dead. For all levels. Evening women's learning will be at the St Louis Kollel, Monday, August 1st and Wednesday, August 3rd, 8:00pm – 9:00pm. Beit Midrash for Women: Classes will resume at the end of the summer.

Registration is still open for Camp Derech Eretz for the next 2 weeks, Monday, August 1st to Friday August 12th, 2011. Camp is for children entering Kindergarten through 11th grade in the fall of 2011. A special separate camping program is planned for the older grades.
