ANNUAL SHUL DINNER – ISRAELI CAFÉ: March 4th is the date to show our hakarat hatov to Urya and Vardit Teperberg for four years of devoted service to our Young Israel Community. They organized, arranged and taught myriad activities and classes for the adults and children of our Young Israel community. From the Chumash shuir to Mishnat Pinchas to multiple holiday learning and celebrations, the Teperbergs gave unstintingly of their warmth and smiles and expertise to our Young Israel family. And they will continue to do so when they return to us. Keep your eyes pealed for the schedule of learning activities that the Teperbergs will lead when they are here.  In addition, the dinner provides us the opportunity to present the Distinguished Service Award and express our thanks to Charles Landy for his quiet and persistent dedication in seeing that all events at Young Israel run smoothly. For years, Charles has devoted hours of making arrangements, charting table lay outs, and coordinating all the moving parts that create lovely events. It is his capable behind-the-scenes presence that so enhances all our smachot and celebrations. Be sure to join us and support our shul in this important fund-raising event.


SPECIAL TMK TU B’SHVAT EVENT: Tu B'Shvat is coming, so is "Borei Peirot HaAretz". Torah MiTzion invites our supporters to 'Taste the Fruits of Israel' on Erev Tu b'Shvat. On Motzei Shabbat, February 7th, at 8 PM, two short Israeli films will be shown (The Orthodox Way and Ido, both with English subtitles) as we celebrate the trees of Israel at "The Cedars" 13190 South Outer 40 Road in Chesterfield.  Open to TMK donors $100 or higher.

NEW MINI-SERIES ON THE HEBREW CALENDAR: Rabbi Shulman will be conducting a mini-series on Birkat HaChamah & The Hebrew Calendar on Mondays for 6 weeks starting on February 9 (skipping Purim), from 7:30-8:45pm. The series is being sponsored by Jill and David Mogil in memory of Jill’s father, Saul Mirowitz.

TRIBUTE CARDS: Giving Tzedakah is the perfect way to commemorate a simcha or remember a loved one. The Women’s Division has tribute cards for just this purpose. Contact Matilda Zeffren at 862-3809 for more information

KASHRUTH SYMBOL CARDS: There are still a few of the CRC credit card size laminated kashruth symbol cards – perfect for your purse or pocket. They are only $1.00 and are available in the office.

WD CALENDARS: Please arrange to pick up your calendar ASAP. We have requests for any leftovers and we want to make sure that those who reserved calendars get them.

COMMUNITY NEWS

JUST SAY SHEMA: The entire Jewish community is invited to participate in the Jewish Unity Celebration with hundreds of children throughout the St. Louis Jewish community who joined together in the Shema Campaign on Sunday, February 8th, at the City Museum, 701 N 15th Street. Doors open at 1:00pm. Cost is $8.00 for adults and children age 2 and above. For info contact Rabbi Mintz at 726-6047 or smintz@stlkollel.org.

SUSHI TAKE-OUT: The Bais Yaakov 12th grade girls are have a sushi take-out night on February 8th.The sushi will be made and distributed at Young Israel. Pick up is from 5:00-6:00 pm. ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE: The St. Louis Community is truly fortunate to have various organizations available to help us in this time of flux and uncertainty. Under the leadership of the Jewish Federation, the Jewish Family & Children's Service, MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries, the JCC, and others have professional staff to help and advise those who are in need of employment, financial assistance, adult day programs, or any other issues. Please refer to the flyer in the lobby and take advantage of these wonderful resources.

CROWN CENTER: In addition to recruiting more volunteers, the Crown Center is having a diabetes management class starting Tuesday, February 3 for six weeks, from 10:00 am-12:00 pm. OASIS, in conjunction with Washington University, will facilitate this class. There is no charge to participants and the program is open to diabetics and friends/family of those with diabetes.

TOVELING: The Girls’ School of BYHS is having a Chesed fundraiser. They will tovel your dishes for you for just $18 per trip. Please contact Sheera Hirschhorn, Gabi Mankowitz, or Leah Wachsstock.
