Text Box: ANNUAL SHUL ‘DINNER – ISRAELI CAFÉ: March 4th is the date to show our hakarat hatov to Urya and Vardit Teperberg for four years of devoted service to our Young Israel Community. They organized, arranged and taught myriad activities and classes for the adults and children of our Young Israel community. From the Chumash shuir to Mishnat Pinchas to multiple holiday learning and celebrations, the Teperbergs gave unstintingly of their warmth and smiles and expertise to our Young Israel family. And they will continue to do so when they return to us. Keep your eyes pealed for the schedule of learning activities that the Teperbergs will lead when they are here.  In addition, the dinner provides us the opportunity to present the Distinguished Service Award and express our thanks to Charles Landy for his quiet and persistent dedication in seeing that all events at Young Israel run smoothly. For years, Charles has devoted hours of making arrangements, charting table lay outs, and coordinating all the moving parts that create lovely events. It is his capable behind-the-scenes presence that so enhances all our smachot and celebrations. Be sure to join us and support our shul in this important fund-raising event.


ONEG: There will be an Oneg Shabbat for Sr NCSY this Friday night at the home of Josh Deutsch, at the corner of Gannon & Center, at 8:15pm. The Oneg originally scheduled at the Shulman’s home will be rescheduled.

ROSH CHODESH: The TMK Women’s Rosh Chodesh Shevat program will take place on January 26th at the home of Faye Newman, 7916 Stanford, at 7:00pm. For more information or to RSVP, contact Merav at 420-3696 or possick@gmail.com

SPECIAL TMK TU B’SHEVAT EVENT: TMK invites its supporters to 'Taste the Fruits of Israel' on Erev Tu B'Shevat on Motzei Shabba,t Feb. 7, 8 PM, at "The Cedars at the JCC". An Israeli film will be shown (with English subtitles) as we celebrate the trees of Israel.

BLOOD DRIVE – FOLLOW UP: The St. Louis Community Blood Drive was a great success. 87 units of blood were donated!!! Each unit can benefit 3 individuals. With the 87 units donated, we have the potential to help 261 lives. We also had 36 first-time donors. Yasher Koach to all. Tizku L’Mitzvot.  And a special thank you to Judy and Bob Hellman for your initiative, dedication, and total commitment in bringing this chesed project to Young Israel.

WD CALENDARS: The Women’s Division Calendars have arrived. Those who ordered them can pick them up in the office whenever Judy is there.  New this year----We will be emailing all of our members a copy of the calendar on a monthly basis updated with timely shul events!

TRIBUTE CARDS: Giving Tzedakah is the perfect way to commemorate a simcha or remember a loved one. The Women’s Division has tribute cards for just this purpose. Contact Matilda Zeffren at 862-3809 for more information

LOST & FOUND: All coats, shoes, etc that have been left in the shul are on the coat rack downstairs. Unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the month – January 30th.

COMMUNITY NEWS

CAMP MOSHAVA: Camp Moshava of Wild Rose, WI will hold an informational meeting for all prospective and returning camp parents and campers, Wednesday January 28th, at the home of Dr. Rael and Suzanne Sundy, 842 Duke Dr. Come meet with David Pelzner, Camp Director, to see our video and hear about the Camp’s exciting plans for summer 2009.

ASSISTANCE IS AVAILABLE: The St. Louis Community is truly fortunate to have various organizations available to help us in this time of flux and uncertainty. Under the leadership of the Jewish Federation, the Jewish Family & Children's Service, MERS/Missouri Goodwill Industries, the JCC, and others have professional staff to help and advise those who are in need of employment, financial assistance, adult day programs, or any other issues. Please refer to the flyer in the lobby and take advantage of these wonderful resources.

CROWN CENTER: In addition to recruiting more volunteers, the Crown Center is having a diabetes management class starting Tuesday, February 3 for six weeks, from 10:00am-12:00pm. OASIS, in conjunction with Washington University, will facilitate this class. There is no charge to participants and the program is open to diabetics and friends/family of those with diabetes.
