SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN OUR COMMUNITY: HOW DO WE HELP?

Learn how we as a community can support families and friends who are struggling with substance abuse. It is important to know the most up to date information on addiction and how to help.   Monday, December 1, 2008, 7pm-8:30pm, at Young Israel.

 

WOMEN’S DIVISION CALENDAR: The 2009 calendar sponsored by the Women's Division is in the works. This calendar lists birthdays, anniversaries and yahrtzeits of family and friends of the shul. You should all have received your entries from last year or a form to submit new entries. We would like to have 100% participation in this year's new and improved calendar. The deadline is Dec 1st. TRIBUTE CARDS: Giving Tzedakah is the perfect way to commemorate a simcha or remember a loved one. The Women’s Division has tribute cards for just this purpose. Contact Matilda Zeffren at 862-3809 for more information.

KASHRUTH SYMBOL CARDS: The CRC has distributed credit card size laminated kashruth symbol cards – perfect for your purse or pocket. They are only $1.00 and are available in the office.

BELATED ROSH CHODESH EVENT: There will be a women's (belated) Rosh Chodesh Kislev event on Sunday December 7th, at 8:00pm, at Young Israel. The program includes learning ,and Israeli dancing.

PARDON POLLARD: We have an opportunity to voice our request and to urge President Bush to pardon Jonathan Pollard before he leaves office. Visitors to www.freepollardnow.com are urged to call, fax, and send letters to President Bush on a daily basis. The website provides contact information for the White House, a sample letter that people can fax or mail, and an online petition that will be sent to President Bush.

HANUKAH HUGS 2008: Too early?? No. The Food Pantry begins to distribute toys for Chanukah in the beginning of December when they distribute food. Please bring a new, unwrapped gift for children ages birth – 12. The box is downstairs outside of  the Shul office.

EHA OPEN HOUSE: Epstein Hebrew Academy is having its second Open Door Day on Wednesday, December 10th, at 1138 N. Warson Rd. Take tours, visit classrooms, enjoy refreshments, and more. For more information, call 994-7856.

EPSTEIN’S ANNUAL BOOK FAIR: Parents, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Siblings - Are you looking for a great gift? Chanukah’s just around the corner. Please come to Epstein’s Annual Book Fair Dec. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 9am-4pm, at EHA, 1138 N. Warson. We will have books and small gifts to purchase.

THE BARBARA MENDELSON TOMCHEI SHABBOS FUND: This fund assists families in our community provide for Shabbos. Here's how YOU CAN HELP: Donations of nonperishable items can be left in the designated bins at the rear of the Hartstein Shabbos house 8115 Delmar. Donations of money, gift certificates and/or scrip can be sent to Rachel Lubchansky. Tribute cards, $5 each, 6 for $25 can be obtained from Jackie Gerson, 997-7257.
