Every Shabbat is Shabbat Chinuch!  Beginning Nov. 11th join TMK every Motzel Shabbat in our NEW parent-child learning program from 5-120 y.o @ 6:30-7:15 PM.  Uria & Vardit Teperberg are providing the study guides in Pikei Avot at Y.I.

 

Bat Mitzvah Program:  Mother & 6th grade daughter will meet Sun., Nov. 12, 7-8:30 PM and present ‘Miriam’.  Interested in joining, please call Vardit Teperberg at 420-3696 or Suzanne Sundy 420-7880.

 

Important Note to Parents: Parents are reminded that they are responsible for their children while on Shul property.  We ask that every child be either with a parent or in one of the supervised youth programs listed above.  This is essential for the safety of our children and the protection of Shul property.  Thanks for your cooperation.

CONDOLENCES – to Bonnie Drazen on the passing of her beloved father, David Franklin.  May Bonnie and the entire Drazen/Franklin family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

ROSH CHODESH PARTY FOR WOMEN Sunday, Nov. 19th at 8:30 PM at Vickie Isakow’s home on 8042 Tulane.

 

LATER NIGHT MAARIVa request has been made to the interim Committee for a later night Maariv minyan., Sun. or Mon. through Thurs.  The Committee wants to determine if there is sufficient interest for such a minyan during the winter months (Nov.-March).  The Committee does not want to take away from the existing Maariv minyan which follows Mincha.  If you would be interested in such a minyan, please e-mail or call the shul office, Alan Gerson (agg@bks-law.com/997-7257) or Mordechai Simon  (Mordechai.Simon@amdocs.com/726-2116) and let us know what time(s) you would be willing to attend on a regular basis.  The Committee will then see if there is sufficient interest to start a later night minyan.

 

UPCOMING SHABBOS SPEAKERS AT YOUNG ISRAEL - Thursday, Nov. 16th, Rabbi Jeremy Kagan will present a talk at Beth Medrash HaGadol Shaarei Chesed Shul at 8:00 PM in merit of a refuah shelimah for the Grunberger children.  He will also be our guest speaker over Shabbat.  Hold the Date! Our next Scholar in residence program will take place the weekend of Dec. 1-2, and feature Rabbi Mark Dratch.  Rabbi Dratch currently heads JSafe:  The Jewish Inst. Supporting an Abuse-Free Environment.  He served for 22 years as a congregational Rabbi in Stamford, Ct., and is a son-in-law of Y.U. legendary president, Dr. Norman Lamm

 

COMMUNITY EVENTS

N.C.S.Y. SR Oneg with Rabbi Polstein at the home of Rabbi & Mrs. Menachem Balson. SR Melva Malka Concert & Ice Cream Bar at 7:30 PM at YI.  JR NCSY Ice Skating @ Brentwood Ice Skating Rink Sun., Nov. 12th. Meet at the Ice Skating rink at 2:45 PM.  Cost: $5 ($4 if you bring NEW person).  Price includes ice skates. Contact Sheera Hirschhorn for more information. JR NCSY Fall Shabbaton – Don’t miss the first Shabbaton of the Year!  We will be traveling by coach bus to Kansas City for an amazing Shabbat.  We will depart Friday AM and return Sun. afternoon. PATHWAYS COMMUNITY HOSPICE & JCC – will jointly sponsor a community presentation by Rabbi Maurice Lamm entitled, “God Consoles, Man Comforts:  Jewish Views on Death & Dying” to be held Sun., Nov. 19th at 6:30 PM in the JCC auditorium.  Please call Pathways Community Hospice at 636-733-7399 to RSVP or for more info.

JEWISH FOOD PANTRY’S ANNUAL DRIVE - The food pantry serves hundreds of families in the Jewish and non-Jewish community and is the only local food pantry that provides kosher food on request to its clients. It is important that we support this endeavor and help the less fortunate in our own community.  Collection boxes are located downstairs.
